RIHM, Die Stücke des Sängers
The title "Die Stücke des Sängers" does not refer to musical pieces, but to the remains of the singer Orpheus, torn apart by the Maenads. The harp concerto from 2001, which Wolfgang Rihm expanded slightly in 2008, is also a four-part epitaph for the poet Heiner Müller. [...] Magdalena Hoffmann, the phenomenal solo harpist of the BRSO, captivates with often very robust, almost sculptural sounds, playing with immense passion and yet miles away from the instrument’s usual tropes; for this, she receives thunderous applause. Berlin, 4 March 2021. Deutsche Grammophon signs an exclusive agreement with Magdalena Hoffmann.
“We are delighted that Magdalena is continuing the great harp tradition on the Yellow Label, represented by, for example, Nicanor Zabaleta during the last century,” says Dr Clemens Trautmann, President Deutsche Grammophon. “I am certain she will take a highly personal, contemporary approach, creating exciting new recordings and broadening the repertoire of one the most ancient and demanding musical instruments. Magdalena knows how to make the most of its entire tonal spectrum in her own original, thoroughly unconventional way.” |

DUO
with Karl-Heinz SCHÜTZ "A duo of strong character" "[...] And what the two likeable virtuosos got out of their instruments was more than impressive. [...] Magdalena Hoffmann is so completely free from pretense; she requires no great gestures, but only a never failing concentration in order to convey in her playing exactly that which the harp signifies in the music world. Similar to the piano, the harp can replace a small orchestra, but can also weave a whole tapestry of sound, on top of which the radiant flute can unfold." Schwäbische Zeitung, 30.01.2018 |
